Clementi (金文泰), situated in the western region of Singapore, is a well-established and diverse HDB estate. Part of the West Coast GRC, it is excellently connected by the Clementi MRT station on the East-West Line and major expressways like the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) and Pan-Island Expressway (PIE).

Clementi is well known for its proximity to educational institutions such as the National University of Singapore (NUS), Ngee Ann Polytechnic and the School of Science & Technology.

Clementi features a wide range of HDB flats, from older units to newer developments. These are some of the HDB subzones in the Clementi estate:

My personal connection to Choa Chu Kang dates back to my National Service days. Based at Lim Chu Kang camp, my campmates & I would often frequent Lot One Shopping Mall or local eateries at the Keat Hong on our nights out.

Clementi Avenue 3: I remember the “Big Bookstore”, “Bus Interchange”, “The Bakery”, “The Cinema”, “The McDonald’s”, “The Wet Market” and many more.

(a) Historical Significance:
Clementi is named after Sir Cecil Clementi Smith, who served as Governor of the Straits Settlements from 1887 to 1893. Before its development into a residential town, the area was known for rubber plantations and brick kilns.

(b) Eighth New Town:
Clementi New Town is the eighth new town developed by the Housing and Development Board (HDB), with its primary development taking place between 1975 and 1979. This transformation marked its shift from rural land to a vibrant housing estate.

(c) Award-Winning Development:
The integrated development in Clementi, which includes Clementi Mall and Clementi Towers, was awarded the prestigious FIABCI Prix d’Excellence in 2012. This project uniquely combines public housing, transportation, and commercial spaces in one complex.

(d) Clementi Forest:
Clementi Forest, spanning 85 hectares, is the second largest wildlife habitat in Singapore after Bukit Timah Nature Reserve. It is a popular nature spot for hikers and wildlife enthusiasts.
