Jurong East was once part of Singapore’s first industrial estate in the 1960s. It transformed from a mangrove swamp with fish and prawn ponds into a thriving industrial hub, marking the start of its growth into a vibrant town.

(b) Historical Development:
Public housing development in Jurong East began in the 1970s. It helped transform the area from an industrial zone into a bustling residential town, contributing to its steady growth as a vibrant community.

(c) Singapore’s Second CBD:
Jurong East is being developed into Singapore’s second Central Business District (CBD). The ambitious Jurong Lake District project aims to create 100,000 new jobs and transform the area into a “district of the future.”

(d) Convenience and Connectivity:
Jurong East is a key transport hub with access to multiple MRT lines, including the East-West and North-South lines. The upcoming Jurong Region Line will further enhance connectivity, making it even more convenient for commuters.

Construction work has commenced on the Jurong East integrated transport hub. This is targeted to complete in year of 2027.
